What
Is Acupuncture
The
ancient wisdom of acupuncture is increasingly being
recognized as one of the great resources for promoting
health and treating diseases. Deborah Howlett specialises
in traditional Chinese acupuncture, using the very gentle,
pain-free insertion of fine needles into acupuncture points
which are situated in a network of meridians throughout the
body under the skin.
Acupuncture
is a system of healing which has been practised in China
and other Eastern countries for thousands of years.
Although often described as a means of pain relief, it is
in fact used to treat people with a wide range of
illnesses. Its focus is on improving the overall well being
of the patient, rather than the isolated treatment of
specific symptoms. According to traditional Chinese
philosophy, our health is dependent on the body's
motivating energy - known as Qi - moving in a smooth and
balanced way through a series of meridians (channels)
beneath the skin. Health is not just the absence of
symptoms but also the presence of unobstructed flow of
vital energy throughout the body, resulting in a state of
well-being.
Acupuncture points correct problems in the way the body functions, by unlocking the power of the body's natural healing abilities.
What
To Expect Immediately After a Acupuncture
Treatment
After
the acupuncture treatment, many patients report feeling a
sense of well-being, inner calm and often a state of bliss.
This is a response to the neurochemicals and especially the
endorphins that have been released into the bloodstream.
Conditions
Which Respond To Acupuncture
The
World Health Organization (December 1979) recognized a
number of disorders that are successfully treated by
acupuncture.
The most commonly treated conditions at the The Menlha
Healing Centre are skin problems, back and neck pain,
sporting injuries, stress, digestive problems, frozen
shoulder, tennis elbow, period problems, fibromyalgia,
tinnitus, infertility, headaches, depression, hormonal
imbalance, carpal tunnel syndrome, sinus problems, chronic
fatigue, arthritis, spondylitis, and spondylosis
An acupuncture treatment may combine gentle needling
techniques, and scenar/enar techniques.
Although
most people experience an improvement in their symptoms
within the first 2 to 3 treatments, a course of 12
treatments is usually required.
